80 GB hard disk shows up as 76 GB

Drove manufacturers specify drive capacities in "Giga Bytes." ( A Gigaa. Byte is equal to 1024 "Kilo Byte is equal to 1024 Bytes.) But they measure the capacity using 1000 as the multiplier. Specifying the capacity in this way is a marketing gimmickit shows a larger number. so an " 80GB" hard disk has a capacity if 80 x 1000 x 1000 %1024 % 1024, which is equal to 76.29 GB. this is the capacity you see in windows explorer.
most software capture the digital video content from a DV camera by default in multiple segments. this is known as scene Detection, where the software tries to recognise major changes in scene. When it encounters such a change, it stops capturing to the current file and continues chapters on DVD. It increases file manageability. You will need to explore the options in your capture sofware to be able to disable this option and capture the video as a single file.

Ethernet

The widely used networking protocol for local area networks Ethernet was created by Robert Metcalfe and others at Xerox PARC. It was originally known as Alto Aloha Network. It aws standardised as IEEE 802.3. The term "Ethernet" concept of the ether. This became a popular way of connecting computers to enable data sharing and to access devices such as printers.
Ethernet has defferent dervations; the original was designed as 10 base 5 -10 and s for 10MBs, base is the baseband communication used, and 5 stands for 500 ,etres, the maximum distance of communication between the machines. Fast Ethernet or 100 BASE -t gives transmission speeds of 100MBps. Gigabit ethernet is a newer version, which provides speeds of 10 to 100 Gigabits per secound.

Networking

If you wish to connect two PCs to each other, they both need to have network cards installed. You will also need what is called a crossover cablee. now, first make sure file and printer sharing is enabled: open network connections in the control panel, rigth-click on local area connection, and select properties. in the general tab, look for "file and printer sharing for microsoft networks" and make sure the checkbox next to it is selected. ( if it isn't in the list, go to Install> Service>Add and choose this service to add it.) now return to the general tab, select " internet protocol (TCP/IP)" and click on properties. Enter an IP address such as "192.168.1.11" and a subnet mask of 255.255.0 for one computer, and the IP address "192.168.1.11" and the same subnet mask for the other . Now for a particular folder that is to be shared, right-click ok. connect the two computers using the crossover cable. you should now ber able to access the contents of the shared folders on one computer from the other.
